For some, Christmas in Toronto can be whittled down to a few core consumer-based experiences: the holiday market in the Distillery, hearing Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" while skating at Nathan Phillips Square, and beholding the massive Christmas tree at the Eaton Centre.
That last one is getting an extra-Canadian boost this year, as Barenaked Ladies have signed up to perform at the unveiling of Toronto's biggest shopping centre's biggest Christmas tree (holding that title all across the continent, apparently) on November 15.
The big jolly red guy himself will also be in attendance for the unveiling ceremony, which promises a "BIG SURPRISE" that will "create the ultimate holiday experience for guests." Is Steven Page rejoining the band? Probably not — but we can hope!
The band will be joined by the Toronto Children's Chorus for a sing-along accented by "magical indoor snowfall," which is hopefully made of actual snow and not, like, asbestos or something.
One can assume that BNL will perform songs from Barenaked for the Holidays — which was recently pressed to vinyl for the first time ever — in addition to some originals, but no promises have been made.
If you want to get in on all the holiday wonder, be sure to head to the mall at 6 p.m., when the big-ass tree's big-ass debut begins.
