Barack Obama showed Canada some love on his list of the year's best movies by including BlackBerry, as well as Celine Song's Past Lives. Now, he's shared the list of his favourite songs of the year, and it includes Montreal-born songwriter Allison Russell.
Obama's list includes Russell's "The Returner." This is the second time Obama has included Russell on one of his lists: in 2021, he included her song "Nightflyer" on his year-end list. At the time, Russell told Exclaim!, "I'm in fabulous company — Barry has great taste! I look forward to his playlist every year. To actually be on it is just wild."
The list also includes Big Thief's "Vampire Empire," Beyoncé's Kendrick Lamar-featuring "AMERICA HAS A PROBLEM," Mitski's "My Love Mine All Mine," and songs by Jon Batiste, Megan Thee Stallion, Lenny Kravitz, Indigo De Souza and more.
