Augury

Concealed

BY Denise FalzonPublished Mar 8, 2011

Montreal, QC progressive death metal masters Augury have flown under the radar for quite some time now. Their 2009 release, Fragmentary Evidence, brought the band some new-found recognition, but their debut, Concealed, which was released five years prior, has gone unnoticed by many due to Augury's humble beginnings with Galy Records. Originally recorded with Yannick St-Amand (Martyr, Unexpect) and mixed by Jean-Francois Dagenais (Katyklysm, Misery Index), the record is a staple in the underground scene. Now, the band have re-released Concealed, completely remastered, with an additional two tracks from a 2006 demo, as well as new packaging. The result is remarkable: the technical guitar work, chugging riffs and melodious leads sound even mightier and flawless, while the philosophical and sci-fi subject matter takes on even greater importance. Even now, seven years later, Concealed remains a truly groundbreaking release from one of the most esteemed bands to emerge out of the Quebecois tech-death scene.
