Matthew Dear’s alter ego closed off the first Piknik with a laptop set that — from many a perspective — recovered him from his disappointing live performance with his Big Hands band the night before. Laying into his usual vein of breathy and bass heavy techno with funky, wobbly bass lines, punctuated with vocals that are sometimes sexy and other times hyphy, his set kept the crowd excited until well after sun down. He played until at least 9:00 P.M., and got everyone raring to go for an incredible Saturday night at the Metropolis.
