Getting in to the yuletide spirit, Victoria-based five-piece Astrocolor have unveiled a new festive offering in the form of an album titled Lit Up. The 10-track set hears the band deconstructing and reinventing a series of holiday classics — and you can hear the whole thing right now at Exclaim!
Mixing traditional tracks with their own unique blend of ambient, dub-infused pop, Astrocolor have crafted a collection of songs that manage to be fresh and exciting, as well as comfortingly familiar.
Opening with "Do You Hear What I Hear?" and revamping old favourites like "We Three Kings," "Silent Night" and "The Little Drummer Boy," the band rope in guest musicians like Antonia Freybe-Smith, Abi Rose, Rykka and Kandle for an intriguing approach to Christmas music.
You can hear the album in its entirety — complete with the accompaniment of a crackling digital fireplace — in the player below.
Lit Up is available now through Last Gang Records.
