Artists Pay Tribute to Toronto Following Deadly Shooting on the Danforth

Following a van attack earlier this year and a spike in gun violence this summer, Toronto was rocked by another shooting that resulted in multiple casualties last night (July 22). So far two victims have died, and another 12 were injured after a gunman opened fire on Danforth Avenue in the city's Greektown neighbourhood.
 
Plenty of artists have spoken out to share their condolences — whether they call Toronto home or were just visiting on tour.
 
Steven Page, former frontman of Barenaked Ladies, took to Twitter this morning to pay homage to the neighbourhood. He famously referenced buying "an old house on the Danforth" in BNL's 1996 Born on a Pirate Ship song "The Old Apartment."

Toronto-based collective Broken Social Scene also shared a message of solidarity with their hometown this morning.

A few years ago I chose to move to the east end of Toronto, first to East York and then the beach. Every day I've been reminded why I made that choice. I truly love it here. What happened on the Danforth last night was ugly, opportunistic barbarism.
