All Time Low

Nothing Personal

BY Sheena LyonnaisPublished Aug 7, 2009

Dear, All Time Low, with two previous records and a lot of hype behind you, your latest rendition of sugary sweet pop punk comes across as rather uninspiring. While the cheery choruses and thicker guitar lines warrant spin time, the extremely and unnecessarily polished production and bland lyrics take you from the standout tracks of previous material and tucks you away with similar bands that forgot where their hearts are and started writing for "success." That said, the rhythms and wordplay in tracks like album single "Weightless" and "Hello, Brooklyn" are so ridiculously sticky and optimistic I can't help but feel happy just listening to them. At 22, I am aware I would love this record if you subtracted a decade from my age, since the cuteness is definitely part of the marketing ploy. I just would have preferred something a little rawer and honest from you after three albums together. Nothing Personal.
