Alkaline Trio

Damnesia

Illinois punks Alkaline Trio return with their eighth studio album, featuring 15 greatest hits performed semi-unplugged. Damnesia contains two new songs, "Olde English 800" and "I Remember a Rooftop," as well as a cover of the Violent Femmes' "I Held Her in My Arms." What remains is a selection of fan favourites, culled from Goddamnit to This Addiction. "Clavicle" and "Mercy Me" remain true to their original versions, while a haunting rendition of "Private Eye" turns the memorable guitar intro into an acoustic take accompanied by horns and percussion. Their new spin on "Every Thug Needs a Lady" has the simplest structure, with guitar, slight percussion and a lilting verse that breaks into a up-tempo chorus. New song "Olde English 800" is a fast, simple punk song that finds the band going back to their earlier style. And "Radio" rounds out the collection, with Skiba giving a passionate performance, with some percussion and acoustic guitar.
