Al Green last released new material with his 2008 album Lay It Down, but the soul icon is finally back with a new single.
"Before the Next Teardrop Falls" arrives as part of Amazon Music's "Produced By" series, which pairs artists with producers, and for this piece, Green teamed up with Memphis's Matt Ross-Spang.
"As a lifelong Memphian, I've always been a massive fan of Al Green and his producer Willie Mitchell," Ross-Spang said in a statement. "Together they created some of the most enduring soul music. Sonically speaking, Willie and Al also really invented a distinct sound that separated them from STAX or Motown. Growing up in such a rich musical heritage I became captivated by these records and long dreamed of working with Al Green."
