Toronto trio Absolutely Free caught ears with their self-titled full-length in 2014, and the group are now set to make their first foray into the world of feature-length film scoring with the release of Two Care Due None next month.
A press release describes the band's score as moody and minimalist, ranging from "reflective ambience to polyrhythmic electronic music bringing to mind the iconic works of John Carpenter, Tangerine Dream, contemporaries Cliff Martinez, Geoff Barrow, and Ben Salisbury."
"The film entranced us into a distinct musical universe," the band said in a statement. "There was no resisting its aesthetic demands, which lead us deep into compositions that indulge mood over melody, exploring the subtleties at the periphery of what we have created live and on record up to this point."
Independently produced by Chris Boni and Melissa Fisher, Two Cares Due None explores the ways different cultures place value on objects. Shot on location in Iceland, Italy, and Toronto in 2013, the art-house film "mitigates between magic-realism, suspense, and mystery."
The film will receive its world premiere with two screenings at Toronto's Royal Cinema on May 13 and May 15. Further screening and ticketing info can be found here.
