Abigail Lapell has announced that her fifth studio album Lullabies will arrive on November 17 via Outside Music

The Toronto singer-songwriter's follow-up effort to last year's Stolen Time is a unique endeavour inspired by a bout of insomnia during COVID-19 lockdowns. With the exception of one original song based on a fragment of a half-remembered bedtime melody from Lapell's mother, each track reimagines a lullaby in a different language. Across the project's eight-song run, she takes on French, English, Yiddish, Welsh, Spanish, Japanese, Hebrew and German.

Recorded in Toronto and produced by Michael Timmins, Lullabies also marks Lapell's first record performed entirely solo. She previews the album today with lead single "Isabeau," which puts a modern folk spin on the traditional French lullaby "Isabeau s'y promène." The original tune tells the tale of a young girl who attempts to learn a song from a group of sailors after encountering them while walking along the water's edge in her garden.
