Contrary to the prevailing vibe of his electronic-nuanced recent CD, Laissez-Faire, Ayla Brook pressed his rhythm section into lean, three-piece roots rock duty. Between numbers, Brook charmed the respectable and respectful Cameron House crowd with genuinely hilarious song-origin stories and an on-the-fly glossary of "Saskatchewanisms. Musically, the trio demonstrated remarkable versatility, opening the show with a decidedly straightforward country rock instrumental, then skirting territorial pop boundaries with tunes such as Brooks catchy, melodic gem "Raw Joy, before finishing up with an all-out sonic-squall closer.
