An insider told purveyors of A-List drama The Daily Mail that the Top Gun: Maverick star missed the Oscars this year so he wouldn't have to run into his ex-wife Nicole Kidman. Twenty-three years later, you think he'd be able to put his big boy pants on and risk a run-in — especially considering he is the one who filed for divorce — but who are we to judge?
While one source insists Cruise skipped the Oscars for the aforementioned personal reasons, another claims the actor wasn't there because he is currently in the UK filming the Mission Impossible sequel. "Tom's absence from the Oscars was not anything personal and, despite what is being said out there, he did not skip the show because he was not nominated," said the source.
Despite not attending the Academy Awards ceremony, Cruise attended the Oscars luncheon on February 13 — an event at which Kidman was absent. Curious!
Cruise and Kidman called it quits in 2001, supposedly after the latter refused to join the Church of Scientology. The Church is said to have labelled Kidman a "Suppressive Person," cutting her off from the two children she adopted with Cruise — both still devout Scientologists.
