The 'Deadwood' Movie Is Finally Happening

It's been two long years since HBO committed to the idea of a Deadwood movie, and now it is finally following through on its promise.

At a TCA meet-up, HBO chief Casey Bloys confirmed that the network has greenlit a movie some 11 years after the show had its three-season run, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film will be directed by Dan Minahan and written by show creator David Milch. Minahan previously helmed four episodes of the TV series.

When asked about casting decisions, Bloys would not provide any details and simply said, "Let's take the green light and celebrate that."

However, initial reports had speculated that many original cast member, including Ian McShane, would reprise their Deadwood roles.

Of course, a series regular will not be present in the film. Last year, Powers Boothe passed away at the age of 68.

Stay tuned for more information on the Deadwood film as it becomes available.
