Simu Liu Vows to Learn from Jo Koy's Mistakes When Hosting the People's Choice Awards: "Absolutely No Taylor [Swift] Slander Will Happen"

A Taylor-free monologue a day keeps the Swifties at bay

Simu Liu was awarded hosting duties for the quickly approaching People's Choice Awards (PCAs) yesterday (January 11), and he's made it clear that he's determined not to replicate Jo Koy's awkward Golden Globes monologue when he takes the stage in February.

After his joke about Taylor Swift's airtime on NFL broadcasts fell flat on Sunday, Koy has been targeted by Swifties online — which, as Ticketmaster's legal team and Nikki Sixx can confirm, is not an enviable position to be in.

In sharing the news that he'd be hosting the PCAs to his Instagram story last night, Liu playfully acknowledged Koy's misstep and promised that he wouldn't make the same mistake.

"Absolutely no Taylor [Swift] slander will happen at the 2024 PCAs, that is a personal guarantee," he wrote.

Unlike Koy, who said on Monday (January 8) that he was surprised by how difficult hosting can be, Liu is no rookie to the job. He MC'd back-to-back JUNOs in 2022 and 2023 and is fresh off of leading the Unforgettable Gala through their 21st awards show.

Check out a clip of Liu's monologue at the Unforgettable Gala ahead of the 2024 PCA's, set to take place on February 18.
