Fan-favourite, Vancouver-shot '90s sci-fi series The X-Files is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and what better way to commemorate the tireless work of Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully than by rebooting the series for a new generation?
Black Panther director Ryan Coogler has apparently set his eyes on a revival, according to original X-Files creator Chris Carter, who shared the news during an interview with CBC's On the Coast with Gloria Macarenko.
"I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount The X-Files with a diverse cast," Carter said. "So he's got his work cut out for him, because we covered so much territory."
Coogler has yet to respond to the claims publicly, and 20th Television, the studio behind the original series, has also yet to comment.
The original X-Files ran from 1993 to 2001, airing nine seasons ahead of a pair of revival seasons in 2016 and 2018.
Incidentally, today, Buffering: A Rewatch Adventure podcast hosts Jenny Owen Youngs and Kristin Russo debuted the pilot episode of their new series The eX-Files, for those interested in revisiting the original series before Coogler's rework touches down.
