Matt Damon is facing backlash after revealing that he stopped using a slur against members of the LGBTQ+ community only a few months ago.
In an interview with the Sunday Times, the actor shared that he had to be told by his teenage daughter to stop using the f-slur in conversation.
"The word that my daughter calls the 'f-slur for a homosexual' was commonly used when I was a kid, with a different application," Damon said. "I made a joke, months ago, and got a treatise from my daughter. She left the table."
He continued: "I said, 'Come on, that's a joke! I say it in the movie Stuck on You!' She went to her room and wrote a very long, beautiful treatise on how that word is dangerous. I said, 'I retire the f-slur!' I understood."
This isn't the 50-year-old actor's first affront to the queer community. Back in 2015, Damon came under fire for suggesting that gay actors should stay in the closet because they're "more effective when they're a mystery."
