Beloved Canadian sketch comedy series The Kids in the Hall is set to return with a new season at Amazon Prime Video.

The streaming service has greenlit eight new episodes of the show, with Dave Foley, Bruce McCullouch, Kevin McDonald, Mark McKinney and Scott Thompson all set to return. Lorne Michaels will return to executive produce, promising to give fans both fan-favourite characters and some new ones.

The Kids in the Hall initially ran from 1988 to 1995. In 1996, they then released the film Brain Candy before reuniting again in 2010 for the CBC miniseries Death Comes to Town.

"Even after 30 years, The Kids in the Hall has retained its brilliance and originality," Michaels said in a statement. "We are happy to be bringing back all of the original Kids for the new series."

Though Amazon has filmed properties in Canada before, this will be the first original Canadian content for the service.

"We've been investing in Canada for several years and are excited to add to that momentum by making The Kids in the Hall the first Canadian Amazon original series," Amazon Studios VP of international originals James Farrell said. "The Kids in the Hall is an iconic show with a deep-rooted fan base. Several of our global hits, including The Boys, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan and The Expanse have been filmed in Canada, and we are looking forward to continuing our work with talented producers and crew teams across the country to bring this series to our Prime members around the world."

So far, the premiere date for the new series is unclear, but stay tuned for more information on the new series as it becomes available.
