Jenna Ortega is no longer returning for Scream VII, Deadline reports.
The actor, who starred as Tara Carpenter in 2022's Scream reboot and this year's Scream VI, is reportedly facing scheduling conflicts with her obligations to shoot the next season of the hit Netflix series Wednesday. However, it's lost on no one that the news immediately follows yesterday's (November 21) firing of Melissa Barrera — who plays her sister, Sam Carpenter — from the film after her comments on the Israel–Hamas war.
Scream VII was announced back in August, with a target release date of sometime next year. Regarding Barrera's firing, director Christopher Landon made a since-removed post on X, writing, "This is my statement: 💔 Everything sucks. Stop yelling. This was not my decision to make."
In addition to Season 2 of Wednesday, Ortega stars in Tim Burton's upcoming Beetlejuice sequel, set for release next September.
