Jason Momoa wants more Dune. Denis Villeneuve's long-awaited adaptation of Frank Herbert's sci-fi classic doesn't debut until the fall, but the star is already pushing for the release of the "four-to-six hour version."
"It was a cool movie. You know what they need to do? They need to make the four-to-six hour version of the first half," Momoa told The New York Times. "It's like, 'Let's watch the four-to-five-hour movie like a TV show; I can choose when I want to watch the whole thing.' I want to see Denis's whole vision. I don't want it to be trimmed."
The Timothée Chalamet- and Zendaya-starring film is part one of an intended two-part adaptation of Herbert's 1965 novel. It's unknown just how much footage Villeneuve had to cut to reach the film's current 2 hour and 35-minute runtime, but it's likely no small number — the director's cut of Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049 is a whopping 4 hours and 41 minutes.
Time will tell how much of Villeneuve's original vision audiences get to see. Dune has its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival next month where it will appear in an out-of-competition slot. The film will also screen in IMAX at TIFF before debuting worldwide on October 22.
As previously reported, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Rebecca Ferguson and more will also star alongside Momoa.
