Suzanne Whang, an entertainment personality best known for being the first host of HGTV's hit series House Hunters, has passed away. Whang died on Tuesday (September 17) following a 13-year battle with breast cancer. She was 56 years old.
Whang hosted House Hunters from 1999 to 2007. Outside of her work on that show, she co-hosted TV's Censored Bloopers with Dick Clark and FOX After Breakfast with Tom Bergeron. She also appeared in Arrested Development and Anger Management, as well as plenty of other television shows.
Whang had a bachelor's in psychology from Yale and a master's degree in cognitive psychology from Brown. She also had a successful stand-up comedy career.
"On Tuesday evening around 7:20 p.m., Suzanne breathed her last breath here at home, as I knelt beside her and caressed her," her partner, Jeff Vezain, said in a statement posted to Facebook. "For 13 years she confronted cancer with courage, humour, determination and optimism."
HGTV also released a statement, saying, "Suzanne was warm, funny and kind with a distinctive voice that made everyone feel at home. Our HGTV family mourns her loss and wishes to express deepest condolences to her friends, fans and family who knew and loved her."
