Having announced the launch of a cheaper, ad-supported streaming tier earlier this year, Netflix has now shared the particulars of their new price point, including its Canadian launch date.
The lower-priced, ad-supported plan — dubbed "Basic with Ads" — will launch November 1 at 9 a.m. PT in Canada, ahead of its initially proposed launch timeline of early 2023.
At $5.99 CAD a month, Netflix's ad-supported tier will show an "average of 4 to 5 minutes of ads per hour" before and during programming, with ads ranging between 15 and 30 seconds in length.
As previously reported, the tier will have a smaller catalogue of things to watch, which Netflix chalks up "to licensing restrictions, which we're working on." Additionally, the ability to download titles for offline viewing is not available, while video quality goes "up to 720p/HD."
Netflix's "Basic with Ads" plan will also launch in Australia, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, the UK and the US. The streamer notes that the plans and price points of current subscribers remain unaffected.
Netflix raised its monthly subscription prices in Canada this past January, and if you're in search of something new to watch this month, check out what's coming to Netflix Canada in October 2022.
