Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will star in a new standalone film within the Fast & Furious franchise, reprising his role as Luke Hobbs. The project was announced by Universal Pictures, with Chris Morgan, a long-time collaborator of the franchise, writing the script.

The plot details have yet to be revealed, but sources have mentioned that the movie will connect the events of the recently released Fast X and the upcoming Fast X: Part II, set to release in 2025. Audiences last saw Johnson as Luke Hobbs in the post-credits scene of Fast X, surprising fans after a very public falling out with fellow Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel.

He addressed the feud on Twitter today, saying: "Last summer Vin and I put all the past behind us. We'll lead with brotherhood and resolve — and always take care of the franchise, characters & FANS that we love."

The film will be produced by Johnson's Seven Bucks Productions, along with Vin Diesel and Samantha Vincent from One Race Films. Other producers involved include Chris Morgan, who has previously written and produced films in the franchise, including Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw and The Fate of the Furious, as well as the fifth, sixth, and seventh entries in the franchise. Fast X, directed by Louis Leterrier, had a successful global opening in May 2023, earning $320 million USD and becoming the second-highest-grossing global opening of the year.
