Crave Reduces Streaming Quality to 720p During COVID-19 Crisis

BY Allie GregoryPublished Mar 29, 2020

Crave has announced plans to lower its video quality due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

The platform dropped its default streaming quality to 720p on Android mobile devices, Chromecasts, iPhones, iPads and Apple TV, after announcing it would "temporarily reduced the quality of streams on some devices" in order to curb a massive surge in internet traffic during isolation.

Much like Netflix and YouTube before it, Bell's Crave streaming service is the latest platform to lower its quality in an effort to limit an already strained national bandwidth in the wake of unprecedented numbers of Canadians staying home to stop the spread of COVID-19.

It remains unclear how long these measures will last, but it's safe to assume that we'll be sharing limited bandwidth as long as isolation is being practised.
