Last month, Jackass alum Bam Margera was placed on a ventilator in an intensive care unit in San Diego when he was diagnosed with a case of COVID-19, later compounded by pneumonia. Thankfully, after eight days in hospital, he was discharged by mid-December.

Margera appeared on the new episode of former co-star Steve-O's Wild Ride podcast this week to open up about his experience with a "gnarly" bout of the virus.

"I was basically pronounced dead on Elvis's birthday, December 8," he revealed. "My body was shutting down and I went into four seizures, each one lasting 10 to 20 minutes. And on the fourth one, I bit my tongue so hard it was nearly falling off."

According to Margera, his tongue got so swollen that he wasn't able to fit it in his mouth. "And I was drinking the infected blood, which gave me pneumonia as well," he explained, recounting being taken to hospital by a shaman and going into his fifth seizure. Margera said he "blacked out" much of the hospital stay — he was convinced that he was there for a couple of hours, but woke up five days later.

"I couldn't breathe without a tube down my throat," he recalled. "And, dude, when they took that tube out, I felt like I sucked on Darth Vader's dick."

You can at least count on Margera to still have a sense of humour about such a massive health scare.

Last year, Margera was also reported missing from a rehab centre in Florida where he was reportedly attending under court order.
