We have a bit of a Schitt-storm on our hands with today's Netflix news: not only has Dan Levy joined the cast of Sex Education Season 4, his Schitt's Creek sister Annie Murphy is also in talks to star in the new season of Charlie Brooker's ubiquitous dystopian anthology series Black Mirror.
Variety reports that Salma Hayek (House of Gucci, Eternals) is also being eyed for Season 6 of the show, which was announced back in May after Brooker had previously felt that reality had gotten too bleak for society to stomach it. After the series made its debut in 2011, Black Mirror's fifth season aired in June 2019.
As per Deadline, Rory Culkin (Under the Banner of Heaven, Signs) is the latest high-profile name to be confirmed as one of Season 6's stars. He joins previously announced cast members Josh Hartnett, Aaron Paul, Zazie Beetz, Kate Mara, Paapa Essiedu, Danny Ramirez, Clara Rugaard, Auden Thornton and Anjana Vasan — who are rumoured to only represent the season's first three episodes, so expect further announcements yet.
Plot details, a release date and the like are all being kept strictly confidential, but production is reportedly underway for the sixth season of Black Mirror. As previously reported, the new instalment is supposedly going to expand the cinematic scope even further, with each high-production episode being treated as its own film.
Murphy has been no stranger to the Netflix homepage this year, appearing in Season 2 of Russian Doll and Murderville. The Ottawa-born actor is also working on a new film with the Schitt's Creek writers, to be directed by Sleater-Kinney's Carrie Brownstein.
