Once known as the cool alt-girl Anna Stern from The O.C., actor Samaire Armstrong has reemerged as an aspiring right-wing politician, and this year ran for mayor in the small city of Sedona, AZ. After yesterday's election, the votes are in, and Armstrong has lost the race.
While the votes aren't quite finalized as of this writing, Armstrong has shared a message via her social media channels acknowledging her defeat to Scott Jablow, who was previously Sedona's vice mayor and will now be taking over as mayor.
Armstrong wrote, "We as a community gathered with all our heart as soul over the last half year. While it looks as if we did not get the results we hoped for, our intention behind the gathering of collective energy and intention remains. We continue to push forward. I pray Mr Jablow leads with integrity and open mindedness to the half of the community who's [sic] votes he did not receive. We will continue forward to create Sedona in the vision of a heart centered community driven by common sense policy."
Sedona Red Rock News reports that Armstrong earned 42.23 percent of the vote (1,518 votes so far), while Jablow has 57.77 percent (2,741 votes).
In the primary election on August 2, 2022, Armstrong and Jablow each earned enough votes to qualify for the November runoff election.
Armstrong has made headlines in recent years by supporting Donald Trump and calling Black Lives Matter a "terrorist organization." She has expressed anti-vax and anti-mask viewpoints on numerous occasions, and her announcement that she would be running for mayor cited 5G towers as one of the challenges facing Sedona. In July, she wrote an essay about the "woke agenda," claiming that wokeism was a form of Marxism designed to "persuade insecure, Godless/higher powerless people into a line of submissive obedience and manipulation."
In addition to The O.C., her past acting roles include Entourage and Dirty Sexy Money, plus cameos in The X-Files, ER, and Freaks and Geeks. She has no apparent political experience.
