Back in 2019, it was revealed that Paramount was planning to develop a reboot of John Woo's 1997 action-thriller Face/Off, and now, Godzilla vs. Kong's Adam Wingard has officially signed on to direct the forthcoming film.
Wingard will write the script with collaborator Simon Barrett, according to Deadline, while Neal Moritz will be helming production alongside David Permut who will be executive producer.
The original '90s film starred Nicolas Cage or John Travolta as action-movie frenemies who surgically swap faces.
A synopsis for the original reads: "In order to foil a terrorist plot, an FBI agent undergoes facial transplant surgery and assumes the identity of a criminal mastermind, who murdered his only son. The plan turns sour when the criminal wakes up prematurely and seeks revenge."
So far, no telling how that story will translate into the next.
Few other details concerning the reboot have emerged, but the filmmaking team have announced that they plan to cast a whole new roster of talent for the upcoming feature. Whether or not Cage or Travolta will be involved in any way remains unclear.
