Fresh off of Phantom Thread with Daniel Day-Lewis, director Paul Thomas Anderson has teamed up with yet another tortured auteur. That's right — he's directed a new standup special for Adam Sandler

Last night (April 10), Sandler recorded a new Netflix special at Los Angeles' El Rey Theatre. He had advertised the show with the above poster on social media, but didn't mention that it would be helmed by one of the most respected directors working today.

Of course, Sandler and Anderson previously worked together on the critically acclaimed Punch Drunk Love. Their Netflix collaboration doesn't have a release date just yet, but rest assured we'll let you know as soon as we have more information.

Will this release have a soundtrack by Jonny Greenwood? Only time will tell.

UPDATE (04/12, 12:00 p.m. EDT): According to Netflix, Anderson directed some segments for the special, but the full thing was actually helmed by Steven Brill (Sandy WexlerLittle Nicky).
