Last year, disgraced comedy star Bill Cosby was sentenced to spend three to 10 years in prison. The sentencing came after he was convicted on three counts of aggravated indecent assault for drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand in 2004. This week, Cosby tried to appeal the conviction and ultimately failed.
As Variety reports, Cosby's legal team stood before a Pennsylvania court today to try and overturn the conviction. They claimed that the trial should not have allowed five other women to testify about their own allegations against Cosby, arguing that the "prior bad acts" were dissimilar to Constand's allegations.
The court argued that the other women's statements helped portray Cosby's "unique sexual assault playbook," adding that the testimonies helped to "establish a predictable pattern of criminal sexual behaviour unique to [Cosby]" and "simultaneously tended to undermine any claim that [Cosby] was unaware of or mistaken about Victim's failure to consent to the sexual contact that formed the basis of the aggravated indecent assault charges."
Despite other legal arguments in an attempt to have the conviction overturned, Cosby ultimately lost the appeal. As such, he will continue to serve his sentence, which will run anywhere from three to 10 years in prison.
His stint behind bars did not exactly start smoothly, as Cosby was reportedly pelted with stale hot dog buns.
