Jackass 4 is expected to see release in 2021, but according to new reports, longtime series star Bam Margera will not be a part of the cast.
TMZ reports that Margera was told by producers last week that he would no longer be involved in the film going forward. The site notes the decision was a result of Margera "essentially breaking his contract."
Sources tell TMZ that Margera "was presented with a handful of conditions/restrictions he was told he needed to abide by in order to stay on the project," including "routine drug tests — including urine samples — plus committing to staying sober, blowing into a breathalyzer, taking his medication and seeing a psychologist while on the job."
It is unclear which of these conditions was broken.
News of Margera's removal comes nearly a week after he posted, then deleted, an inebriated rant on social media, saying "Jackass has put me through hell on fucking wheels for a year and a half." In the now-deleted clip from February 11, Margera urged viewers to boycott Jackass 4, claiming filmmakers used his ideas despite his removal.
In a second video the following day (February 12), Margera shared that he planned to seek help for his "manic bipolar" disorder. Citing a source close to the film, Variety reported yesterday (February 16) that during early production, "Margera — who was being monitored by a wellness coach — went AWOL from the production. Those involved in the movie then found out that he had checked himself into a rehab facility in Florida."
Variety's source also noted that Jackass 4 has had its initial March release date moved to September 3, 2021.
Jackass 4 will follow 2010's Jackass 3D, which Exclaim! named one of the 30 Best Films of the 2010s.
