Said to be influenced by deaths, malfunctions, break-ups, and breakdowns, Christopher R. Coello (aka YOU) binds his IDM-experimental-electro with ambient glue that holds the 16 tracks together on this release. At moments, I Am You is reminiscent of Boards of Canada’s dreamy childlike aspirations, alongside a milder less caustic Aphex Twin abrasion; closer to Richard D. James’ Selected Ambient Works. This Philly native concocts a varied enough mixture that allows such different forms of electronic styles to mesh together so beautifully.
