New York City songwriter Yaya Bey has announced Ten Fold, the full-length follow-up to 2022’s Remember Your North Star. It’s arriving May 10 on Big Dada, and Bey is previewing the record with lead single “chasing the bus.”
The song is a silky, low-riding piece of R&B, with Bey unspooling herself over shimmering keys and a sinewy bass line. It comes attached to a self-directed and self-choreographed video that finds Bey dancing in a drafty, warmly lit warehouse loft space.
"'chasing the bus' has a double meaning," Bey said of the new single. "On the surface, it’s about being taken for granted in a romantic relationship. Being slept on and underestimated. But beyond the surface, it’s a metaphor for how I feel in so many spaces in the industry and it’s sort of an affirmation for myself or a reminder to let go of validation or the lack thereof. To exist regardless because I have to."
Last year, Bey released the Exodus the North Star EP. Check out the "chasing the bus" video and see the Ten Fold tracklist below.
