WS50: The Video Album

BY Thomas QuinlanPublished Jul 4, 2007

Illbient hip-hop label Wordsound is celebrating ten years with their 50th release: The Greatest Thing You Never Heard is a 74-minute documentary on Wordsound written, directed and produced by label head Skiz Fernando. It suffers from poor editing and sound problems due to bad interview locations. On the other hand, it gives a good overview of the label and its many artists, along with appearances from Bill Laswell, Prince Paul, EPMD, Wu-Tang Clan and more. The full 21-minute interview with Laswell is also included, as are the videos for Spectre's "Pillars of Smoke,” Prince Paul's "Booty Clap” and "The M-Virus” from Metabolics. Primarily for fans of Wordsound, it might also interest Wu-Tang completists.
