'The Wire' Creator David Simon Working on Pogues Musical

It was a rough year for fans of the UK folk punk outfit Pogues after guitarist Philip Chevron passed away in October at the age of 56 following a battle with cancer. The band's music may live on, however, in the form of a new musical.

According to Rolling Stone, The Wire/Treme creator David Simon is currently putting the finishing touches on a first draft for a musical based on the band's music.

Simon had apparently been working on a script surrounding the band's music with Chevron before he passed away. According to Dublin newspaper Evening Herald, the production "will take years" to complete.

In the comments section of a post on his website, Simon all but confirmed the project. Describing his love for the Pogues, he wrote, "[I] am working with them on a particular project, in fact."
