Impressively bearded Illinois folkie William Fitzsimmons will release his album Lions this month through Nettwerk Records, and ahead of the disc's February 18 arrival, he has shared the whole thing to stream on Exclaim.ca.
The album was produced by Death Cab for Cutie member Chris Walla (Tegan and Sara, the Decemberists). It opens with the hushed acoustic number "Well Enough," and this sets the tone for a collection that centres on Fitzsimmons's acoustic plucking and half-whispered singing. On the other hand, "Took" employs a smooth electric groove, and there's a hip-hop undercurrent to the electronic rhythms of the title track.
The songwriter said in a statement, "The last couple of years have been wonderful, painful, long, incredibly brief, and more educational and rewarding than any I've ever lived before. Lions is something I'm terribly proud of and utterly connected to."
