Wil

'Songs' (EP stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Sep 2, 2016

We last heard from Wil upon the release of his 2014 album El Paseo, but now the Calgary-raised, Vancouver-based singer-songwriter is set to follow it up with a new EP simply titled Songs.

Wil approached the project armed with the skills he's honed from his commercial composition work, finding that the extremely structured nature of those jobs was an asset rather than an obstacle.

"As with my last album El Paseo, a few of these songs were actually born from commercial ideas worked on under extremely tight deadlines," he said in a statement. "[It's] a process that I have surprisingly found works extremely well for me."

He specified that "Tonight" was originally borne under the guidance of Alec Harrison, while working on music for a film called Night Pond. "Our Song" was another commercially-minded composition, crafted alongside Dan McManus.

You can hear both of those, as well as the rest of the six-song collection right now in the player below. Songs is officially out on September 9 via Cordova Bay Records.
