In honour of their 50th anniversary, the Doobie Brothers have laid down a quarantine recording of their 1974 classic "Black Water" from What Once Were Vices Are Now Habits.
Patrick Simmons, who sings lead on the track, offered the following statement about the stream for Rolling Stone:
We knew we would want to share something with others out there who are in isolation just like we are. We are so grateful to our fans who contributed to the performance and our families who helped with the production.
Sending out warm wishes to all of our friends. Thanks to all the angels of mercy who have stepped up to lessen the impact that the COVID-19 virus has had on so many lives. We are partnering with Feeding America for our presentation, and would be thankful to anyone who could make a donation to help our neighbors in need during this crucial time.
The band are still scheduled to reunite with Michael McDonald for the first time since 1995 for a North American 50th anniversary tour this summer. So far no postponements have been announced. Pandemic pending, they'll perform at Toronto's Budweiser Stage on July 19.
