Unable to tour in support of her new record Song for Our Daughter, British folk singer Laura Marling has taken to livestream performances to showcase her new material. Her latest virtual appearance sees the artist performing the record's lead single "Held Down" via The Late Show.
Appearing on Stephen Colbert's nighttime TV series, the artist performed a soulful rendition of her recent release from the comfort of her cozy living room, accompanied only by her own guitar and soaring vocals. Marling's delivery is both beautiful and heartbreaking, as it highlights the universal longing for nearness that has been so tragically interrupted by stay-at-home orders.
Song for Our Daughter was spontaneously released on April 10 via Partisan after teasing the record mere days before.
The artist was scheduled to perform in Montreal and Toronto last month during her North American spring tour. COVID-19 restrictions forced the postponements and cancellations of multiple dates on the trek. So far, the artist has yet to reschedule the tour.
