It's not so odd that Kanye West recently made a public appearance to hype his forthcoming album. But the method the man chose to get people excited about his fifth record was a bit unusual, to say the least.
West appeared, decked out in a full suit, at the Facebook HQ, and rapped the verses to three new songs - "Lost in this World," "Chain Heavy" and "Mama's Boyfriend." The odd part is that he did the rapping completely a cappella - there were no beats, samples, back-up recordings, hype men, musicians or anything. The end result is West looking like some sort of self-help guru gone wrong, awkwardly dancing on, uh, a table (stabilized by mild-mannered Facebook staff) to a room full of people who remain in their seats, staring at him. Seriously, just check out the footage below.
It seems West himself was actually pumped on the performance, as he wrote the following on his blog:
To all my friends at Facebook,
Many times in life I've had to deal with moments of doubt. And as it's been a minute since I've performed any fresh material in front of an audience, this could've been one of those moments... but it wasn't. Your energy was a gift so electric, so genuine, that it really helped me give my best. The energy was so inspiring I had to keep going!
I just hope you got as much from me as I got from you...which was everything!
Love to all my fans, especially at Facebook.

West's new disc, long-rumoured to be titled either Good Ass Job or Record for Hype, is supposedly set to drop on September 14 through West's own GOOD Music.
UPDATE: On Kanye West's spankin' new Twitter account he's revealed that he's ditched the title Good Ass Job.
