Alberta-born Polaris-nominated musician, best-selling author, visual artist and overall multi-hyphenate Vivek Shraya has officially signed to Vancouver's Mint Records ahead of releasing an album anticipated sometime in spring 2023.
"We're excited to work with such a talented multi-disciplinary artist and can't wait to help share her new music with the world," the label wrote of the signing. "Vivek has a bold and honest vision and has spent two decades honing her craft as a musician. We're honoured to welcome her to the Mint Records roster."
For her part, Shraya shared that she's been releasing records independently since 2002's Samsara: The Sketches, "not by choice but by necessity," though that streak will now come to an end.
She explained:
It's been a long and often lonely hustle, filled with self-doubt and second-guessing — trying to keep doing what I love but with very little help. So I'm in awe that 21 years later, I am officially signed to Mint Records, who have been a home to many artists I've admired (including Neko Case! Sook-Yin Lee! and Bella!). A real career highlight.
The forthcoming as-yet-untitled body of work will follow Shraya's latest album, 2017's Part Time Woman. Stay tuned as we await more details on her newest project.
