Virginia Tech Football Team's Entrance to Metallica's "Enter Sandman" Registers Seismically

The metal-fulled moment registered on seismograph readings

The earth-shaking riffs of Metallica's 1991 classic "Enter Sandman" quite literally made (seismic) waves when the Virginia Tech college football team took to the field on Friday (September 3) ahead of playing North Carolina's team.

Blacksburg, VA's Lane Stadium welcomed 65,000 fans to the game for the first time in over a year as schools begin to open their stadiums to full capacity. Needless to say, everyone was pretty excited about it, and they weren't afraid to show it: as RedditCFB pointed out, there's a clear peak in activity on the seismograph readings for the area on game night.

While "Enter Sandman" is a staple in sports arenas, it was given some new life with this team's entrance — and perhaps the stadium's sound techs used the newly remastered version for some extra oomph. Metallica's 30th anniversary re-issue of their seminal Black Album is set to release this Friday (September 10) alongside the star-studded Blacklist covers compilation, and Exclaim! recently went in-depth into how Canada helped bring it to the world.

Virginia Tech's unranked Hokies were able to harness that seismic energy and went on to beat North Carolina's No. 10 Tarheels 17 to 10.

Watch the video of the team's grand entrance and be shaken by the sheer force of the congregation (and the weirdness of people standing so close to each other with very few masks in sight) below.

Ahead of Friday's release, you can hear Metallica's original "My Friend of Misery" bass instrumental. You can also listen to Rina Sawayama's cover of "Enter Sandman."
