Vic Ruggiero

2 Short Albums

BY Skip ViitalaPublished Nov 1, 2000

The lead singer of the Slackers has released two albums that were recorded in spare moments and compiled them here in one tidy package. Tidy though is not what this is all about. Most of the material is relaxed, ramblin'‚ acoustic-based tunes. It's all very reminiscent of Dylan on Highway 61 Revisited. A bit country, a bit folk, a bit rock with some dub and hillbilly elements. I can't imagine any of these being songs the Slackers would do, so any fan of theirs would be a bit miffed by all this. Really, if you like Vic, you'll like these songs. It reveals his singer/songwriter side in a light we have never before witnessed and I certainly appreciate his work more now after hearing this.
