The word "quality” and groundbreaking hip-hop label Stones Throw pretty much go hand-in-hand, and this DVD collection of videos and rare footage is just one more example of that fact. Included here are highly sought-after video classics by the label’s biggest hitters, from Quasimoto’s "Rappcats Pt. 3,” Madvillian’s "Monkey Suite” and J Dilla’s "Nothing Like This” to Lootpack’s "Crate Diggin’.” But the true gems come (as always) with the bonus material. A rare 2003 interview with a fresh-faced Dilla kicks things off, as the late producer extraordinaire breaks down his initial encounters with Madlib and the birth of the Jaylib project. This is followed by the perfect complement: a Jaylib show filmed in L.A. in ’04, with both beatsmith luminaries blessing the crowd with a tight, catalogue-spanning set. All of this is wrapped up nicely by some rehearsal footage of funk troupe Breakeastra tuning up for a Funky 16 Corners recreation gig with many of the compilation’s original players. Trust me, you simply can’t go wrong with any of this!
