Vancouver arts hub Cafe Deux Soleils has closed after 30 years.

The restaurant and venue on Commercial Drive, which opened in 1994, announced the news on Instagram, writing, "With heavy hearts, we announce today, Cafe Deux Soleils is permanently closed. It has been a privilege to serve the community for almost 30 years. Thank you for the love and support over the years."

The news doesn't come as a complete surprise; earlier this year, Cafe Deux Soleils went up for sale. At the time, it seemed possible that a new owner could buy it and keep it open — but since the new announcement confirms that the café is "permanently closed," it looks like the space will become something completely new.

Cafe Deux Soleils had a small stage and hosted live music, open mics, poetry slams, comedy nights and more.
