We just gave Valery Gore our Mark of Excellence for her upcoming album Idols in the Dark Heart, and now everyone can hear what it sounds like via a full stream.
While Gore's past music was jazzy and piano-driven, this album finds the Toronto songwriter venturing into more experimental electronic terrain with help from co-producer/bassist Devon Henderson.
Opener "With the Future" sports drum machine syncopations, computerized synth textures and a chopped-up vocal hook. Elsewhere, "Chinook" begins with start-stop bass riffs before settling into a dance pulse, "Character Girls, Quiet Guys" is a spaced-out adaptation of her jazzy inclinations, and hymnal closer "S.O." ends the album with thoughtful introspection and nostalgic memories.

Idols in the Dark Heart, Valery Gore's third full-length effort, arrives independently on September 9.
