Twin Peaks "Butterfly" on Exclaim! TV
Published Jun 07, 2016Chicago-based garage rockers Twin Peaks have come a long way since their 2013 debut Sunken. The former high-school basement-dwellers built their success on their charming youthful energy and fuzzy rock'n'roll sound, infused with the combined influence of classic rock icons and modern alternative contemporaries. The band members have since dropped out of college to focus on their music, and the decision has paid off: they're currently on tour across the U.S. with the likes of Cage the Elephant and Portugal. The Man, not to mention some headlining shows of their own.
Twin Peaks made a stop at Toronto's Horseshoe Tavern in May, and Exclaim! captured the quintet in action performing "Butterfly," a cut from this year's well-received Down in Heaven. Standing against a crushed glitter backdrop, the group sing of an ephemeral feeling while maintaining a pop melody with gritty electric guitar and bass chord progressions. The echoing of the refrain ("It only takes a little while") and a throbbing, insistent drumbeat make for an urgency that will keep the song in your head for days.
