Trigger The Bloodshed

Degenerate

BY Denise FalzonPublished Oct 23, 2010

The second release from UK's Trigger the Bloodshed, The Great Depression, is a chaotic masterpiece of modern death metal. Now, with follow-up Degenerate, the five-piece have streamlined their approach while maintaining their technicality and hostility. Their third album, and debut for Candlelight Records, Degenerate showcases the band's progression, in terms of songwriting. Tracks like "Hollow Prophecy" and "The Soulful Dead" are particularly well written, containing immense groove with just enough brutal intensity. The record also emphasizes Trigger the Bloodshed's tight musicianship, especially that of guitarists Rob Purnell and Martyn Evans, who combine modern technicality with chugging riff simplicity. Uncompromisingly brutal vocals by Jonny Burgan also score the band major points, along with flawless production by Mark Daghorn (Orange Goblin, Cradle of Filth) and Jacob Hansen (Aborted, Volbeat). With a release like Degenerate, Trigger the Bloodshed have solidified themselves as England's hidden gem.
