Brooding New York unit Trenchfoot have released a solid collection of dark, thrash-inspired hardcore songs on their new LP At The Mercy of Circumstance. Employing screeching feedback throughout the record, the band create a bleak and sinister atmosphere from the first song, which adds emphasis to their already weighty set. "The Catacombs" is one of the most punishing tracks on the record, opening with a plodding build-up that suddenly circles the listener with a blistering flurry of rage-fuelled riffing.
Trenchfoot incorporating furious tremolo sections on "Ocean of Thought" and Converge-esque dissonance on "Just to Feel," and manage to successfully balance their metallic and punk influences throughout the album. At The Mercy of Circumstance is a cohesive package of songs that will appeal to any fan of the darker side of the hardcore spectrum.
