Toronto Raptors Unveil Alternate "Drake" Uniform

The Toronto Raptors got bounced from the NBA playoffs a couple of weeks ago, meaning fans have to wait until next season to see the team back on the courts. But, further fusing the relationship between the Raptors and their "global ambassador," Drake, it's been suggested that the team's return could have them decked-out in a new alternate uniform seemingly modelled after the rapper's black-and-gold "Drake Night" team shirts.

Though it hasn't been confirmed by the NBA or the team, an Adidas catalogue [via ESPN] revealed that the Raptors are one of several teams undergoing uniform changes next year. However, the Toronto squad are the only team to have their digs aligned with the aesthetics of a famous rapper's clothing line.

An updated logo of a dinosaur claw-gripped basketball had been unveiled late last year, which will be present on four different jerseys. Standard home and away game uniforms will be white and red, respectively, while two alternate models are primarily black.

The Drake-themed jersey and shorts are lined with gold trim and have the team name and logo screened in aureate-coloured ink. This harks back to the "Drake Night" T-shirts, which printed both a golden variation of then-current Raptors logo on one side of a T-shirt and the OVO owl on the other. They were given away for free to fans in January of 2014, a few months ahead of the Drake's infamous lint rollers.

We'll have to wait until next season to see if the OVO-approved Raptors jerseys make their way onto the court of the Air Canada Centre. The 2015-16 begins October 27.
